Boss of the 22a label, flutist, saxophonist, producer and DJ, Ed 'Tenderlonious' Cawthorne is considered one of the leading figures in the London jazz and underground scene. His 22a label, based in South London, is one of the UK's most respected independent labels, following a succession of sought-after jazz, house, hip hop, soul, garage, Indian classical and jungle releases. He's got enough work on his own, so anyone who digs a little deeper will know, Tenderlonious has amassed an arsenal of releases that transcend the UK. He is the founder and leader of the jazz-funk-fusion quartet Ruby Rushton, which is the first The 2015 album 'Two For Joy' is often credited with inspiring the resurgence of British jazz.
His debut live album 'Tenderlonious The Shakedown' is considered one of the best classic albums of the modern jazz era, receiving rave reviews and garnering over 5 million streams worldwide. He has also proved himself to be one of the most versatile and forward-thinking musicians in the world, collaborating with Polish jazz band EABS, Italian musician and producer Lorenzo Morresi on his 2022 album 'Cosmica Italiana' and for his celebrated collaboration with Pakistani band Jaubi, which drew rave reviews from The Guardian, Pitchfork, Dowbeat to name but a few, and which have also led to headline shows at London's Union Chapel and festivals around the world. In 2023, he will return with a new live album and live show, featuring some of his favorite musicians and collaborators.
