VICE VERSA

Vice Versa was born from the desire of Belgian pianist Bram De Looze (LABtrio, Joey Baron, Thomas Morgan, Hank Roberts) to collaborate with artists who represent a natural extension of his sonic universe.

He quickly found kindred spirits in New York drummer Eric McPherson (Jackie McLean, Andrew Hill, Pharoah Sanders, Fred Hersch) and Berlin-based bassist Felix Henkelhausen (Jim Black, Nate Wooley, Lotte Anker) — two brilliant composers endowed with boundless rhythmic inventiveness.

This versatile and exploratory trio sets the bar high in expressive interpretation and bold creativity. They explore different approaches where musical rules constantly evolve without ever losing momentum.

The result is a fascinating musical synthesis, where the spirit of the traditional jazz language resurfaces through intuitive excursions that blend free improvisation and contemporary music.

Their debut album, Vice Versa, was released in 2023 on Dox Records and was praised by critics.

In January 2025, while Bram De Looze was artist-in-residence at the Brussels Jazz Festival at Flagey, the trio recorded their second album live in a sold-out Studio 1. This new work will be released in early 2026 on Challenge Records (Netherlands).
