KOKI NAKANO

A virtuoso pianist born in Japan in 1988, Koki Nakano blends his classical sensibilities with more contemporary sounds on stage. Inspired by the movement of the body, he has collaborated with a number of internationally renowned choreographers and given concerts and recitals in prestigious venues around the world.

Ululo is a continuation of Nakano's work. The composer is not afraid of ambiguity, and his music rarely indulges in provocative contrasts and dichotomies. This disposition can be explained by his culture and upbringing in Japan, a country that cultivates the tradition of the moral middle ground. “There is good and evil, and also the middle, which is neither,” he explains.

What makes Ululo different from his other albums, however, is that Nakano approaches this position of balance from the point of view of lack, of the sensation of desire: agonizing at times, and greedy at others.

It is in this quest for harmony that the composer eternally cries out to the moon, that moon too near and too far at the same time.
